Kingfisher Class – Year 4 and Year 5

Welcome to our class page, Kingfisher families!

We are delighted to be able to welcome you to this new academic year in our brand-new school! We have had an amazing first week getting to know each other, and Kingfisher class have been doing lots of thinking about what makes Willow Park a special and safe place. I do hope that some of the enthusiasm they are showing in class is coming home with them!

Whilst we have welcomed lots of new students to the school, I am also new, and realise that I may not know all of you yet. Please do come and say hello in playground before or after school.

This term

Our enquiry this term asks the question ‘What does Earth look like from the Solar System?’ We will be working as scientists, geographers and artists as we seek to understand the Earth’s movements and its relationship to other celestial bodies such as the sun and moon.

Our writing this term will be based on the book, Cosmic by Frank Cottrell Boyce. Described as a ‘side-splitting story of long-legged Liam and his quest to be the first child in space’, it fits in well with our enquiry, and lends itself to some amazing writing opportunities.

We will be teaching maths and reading comprehension in separate year groups this term. Yr4 have the privilege of working with Mr Larke-Phillips whilst Yr5 will be taught by me.

PE Days this term will be Thursday and Friday – Your child should come to school dressed in PE kit.

Supporting your child at home

You can help support at home by encouraging your child with their spellings, reading, times tables and any other homework set. For a recommended reading list please visit https://schoolreadinglist.co.uk/. You can find suggested book lists for both Yr4 and Yr5 under the ‘KS2 BOOK LISTS’ tab.

We are really excited about this year and working together with your child to learn lots of new things!
